Resolute Revisit

I have kept a journal since I was nine-years-old. This allows me to quickly see how that my spastic nature has been with me always. I like to make resolutions, so I checked on my "post" from 1981....don't worry if you haven't been born yet. I am sure this peek in the past is full of wisdom for all generations. Hmmmm, let's see: 1981 Goals: Wash hair 3-4 times a week Keep money records Keep room clean Stop hitting brothers When I like a guy don't tell anyone Eat right Brush teeth Yeah, I was surprised by how little I need to change for this year's list. I would add a few thoughts I have for the present. 2010 hopes: I will be present in my relationships--this includes not surfing the computer or emailing while on the phone. I want to do one push-up by the end of the year. I would like to be a listener instead of a talker. Play with my k...

There are tales out there of spacey pregnant women. Science even backs the notion a pregnant woman's brain loses some power. Oy! I have been losing stuff to the point of crazy. I'm ready to throw until I find everything. Step back-- it could get ugly. I really want that home where it is like an Ikea closet. You open the doors and it has labels, links and matching containers. Each time I go the Ikea or Pottery Barn site, I believe brother! My husband reminds me that baskets will not solve the world's problems. I'm not sure. For now my missing in action list is pathetic and long. It includes: book bag for the library--I love the library this is serious beautiful, green leather scriptures my husband just bought me wedding ring (this sounds bad, left low by the lotion bottle). Sadly, we really can't find it. silver pendant which was a gift from my MIL--it slipped off my neck, I'm sensing a theme a DVD I rented and never saw numerous small things like sandal...

Voices Carry

I attended the funeral for a friend's mother yesterday. I was so moved by the deep love her children had for her. The stories were tender and funny as they shared personal events. Although the mother was described as being gentle, she was also a firm teacher. She didn't yell, she had humor and kindness. As I listened, I was not , as is typical of myself, let down that I would never be that kind of mom. Instead, I thought, "I could stop yelling. I could be that moderate mom who teaches by example. Heck, my kids are young enough they probably won't even remember me yelling if I stop right now!" As the dream was building in my head, I didn't feel disheartened. I felt uplifted; excited for change. My daydream stopped as my seven-year-old tugged on my sleeve. "Mom, you could probably work on the yelling." So, honesty apparently runs in my family. But, it has been one whole day and I am going to at least work on making the spaces between y...
